Prisons vs Universities

I wanted to know what people thought about the situation in California we have built more prisons in California than Universities in the last fifteen years. I can count the Universities on one hand.

To your post, I think that it isn't right that we have more prisons than universities in California. Of course, there are those who need to be in prison, but it seems that the prison system is taking over. Not only is it costing tax money, but it is also a problem. I remember hearing that some people in the prisons were going to be released, the ones with lesser crimes I presume, because there was not enough space. I just think there needs to be more universities for people to learn and maybe it will help people from preventing crimes and going to prison.

It'sreal simple if peole quit breaking the law then...however which laws need to be removed? How much crime are you willing to put up with? We have more education and alot of free education and people that refuse education. Why? Some htink our education is too white, to put it in simplistic terms. Is that hte major reason? Are there just too many laws or not enough morality to stop crime. Without religion I think we lack hope and who cares if we sin...there is no God right?

It is just a sad thought to hear. It seems that education may help change the lives of people who may be going into these jails, but the cost of tuition going up and the small numbers of institutions in California prevents this from happening. In a perfect world, education would be free and everyone would aspire to get an education and get out of a life of crime.

I think it is a shame that we have so many prisons but I also think that there are many educational opportunities - most people can get financial aid and at least go to a junior college for practically nothing (our local Jr colleges are always trying to get more students) but they have to want to go AND maybe they need guidance to show them the way that they aren't getting at a young enough age. I also think that parents need to be more involved in what their kids are doing and teach them right from wrong and maybe we could have a few less criminals with no regard for the lives and personal property of others. On the bright side, the prison systems employ a lot of people and they are making good wages so for them, criminals equals job security...
