I got the oppertunity to travel to Mexico the past couple of years and am planning a trip to South America this year. Traveling through many different places in Mexico both rural and big cities, I realized how privledge we Americans are. Has anyone had a similar expirience?

I have been to a lot of different tourist towns in Mexico including Cabo San Lucas, Puerta Vallarta, Ixtapa, and Mazatlan and I see the same things every time: Driving from the airport or cruise port to my destination we drive through horribly poor neighborhoods and I always have such mixed emotions because I know that I am on vacation which means I probably have extra spending money which makes me feel guilty - but on the other hand, some say that by being a tourist we are contributing to their economy...
